Helicopter Man

January 31, 2007. Yesterday there was not much to report, just playing on the park and visiting Renee for lunch. I did play in the yard a lot and visit with all the passing dogs. I also made my third escape today and I did it with Tom watching. The neighbour’s cat ran past and I just had to go check him out, so with one big run and a mighty leap, I cleared the four foot high fence and went looking for the cat. Tom was not at all happy.

Today Tom took me to the park a little earlier than usual. It was deserted, sunny, and covered with frost. In short it was a wonderful day to play fetch. Tom threw the ball and I went to get it. Then a seagull flew low across my path, so I started to chase him. After a short time I realized I couldn’t catch him so I turned back to Tom.

Then a group of people arrived at the park. No real interest there and then Tom threw the ball again. Well, by this time the group of people was making all sorts of weird motions with their arms and bodies. One guy was flapping his arms like a seagull, and the other was spinning his arms in a circle and looking like a helicopter about to take off. Well, this was just too much for me and I had to go over there, check it out and say hi. So I did, I even had my big 4 inch ball still in my mouth. What a surprise, when helicopter man started swearing and screaming at me and at Tom and then he tried to kick me. What a jerk. Does he think he owns the park or something? Gee, all I wanted was to check out the weird person and say hello.

I went running back to Tom and that spelled the end of fetch on the park for now. We will try again later when helicopter man has generated enough lift and taken off. When we got back to the house, grand-pappy Frank was there doing his laundry, so I went to him and he gave me lots of ear rubs, which made me feel a little better.

We made five different attempts today to get to the park but such was not to be. Every time we looked out and saw that the park was deserted, by the time we got ready to go out, the park was full of puff ball dogs. There was another time we went out and there were grand-parents and two very small kids playing. Because I am always curious, Tom wouldn’t let me loose. I was really good though; I just sat down and stayed. I kept watching the little ones and didn’t even budge from a sitting position. Instead we went for 5 small walks today. Then in the evening went for our usual two hour walk.
