Big Dog On A Blog

May 23, 2007. “You talking to me? Are you talking to me?” Yeah, that’s me the resident tough guy, or at least that’s the way I feel now. You see, to warn people and more importantly to help to keep away the ambulance chasing, scum sucking, bottom feeders, known as lawyers, Tom was forced to put up signs today. They say “Beware of Dog, Enter at Own Risk”. It makes me feel like a tough guy or a gangster. But, I’m one of the “Goodfellas”, and that just isn’t the case. I haven’t been in a “Casino”, but I have watched “The Godfather”. I’m sure the guys from the “Soprano’s” would think I was cute. I have buried a few things and dug up a few more, but not one was “Hoffa”. I suppose the “FBI” could be hunting me for the damage I did to the trailer, but I doubt it. The picture of the dog on the sign looks nothing at all like me, but, then I guess it isn't supposed to be a wanted poster.

I got into a fight once or twice, but nobody got hurt and I am pretty obedient, but “you’ll never take me alive coppers”. “I’m on top of the world ma”. I’m just a “Rebel Without A Cause” and looking for “The Wild Ones”. My bark is definitely worse than my bite, but the signs imply otherwise. As “Tony Montana” said in “Scarface”, “say hello to my leetle friend”.

But now you may have recognized the tongue-in-cheek humour implied by all the references to and quotes from gangster movies. We live in a litigious society and there is always someone out there willing to lay a lawsuit to steal money from you and some lawyer willing to back them up. If I ever hurt someone, I know what my fate would be; I would be on my way to a date with a needle.

We intend to ensure that never happens, hence the signs and all my training. On a brighter note, Tom and I went to the park today and we had a full out 45 minute run. I did amazing today with obedience. The “come” command doesn’t seem to register totally with me, so Tom switched tactics. As I approached him with the ball, he would hold up his hand and give me the “stay” command. Now that is a command that really registers with me.

Each time he said it; I stopped in my tacks and dropped the ball for Tom. Usually, when I retrieve the ball, I come back to Tom and circle around him for awhile before I decide to give him the ball. Not today though, so I was able to get really tired because I did even more running than usual.

Afterwards Tom took me with him while he renewed his driver’s license. That only took 4 minutes from the time he went in, to the time he came out. Amazing work for a government organization. Once we were done there, we went to the tire store to get two new tires on the truck. While it was being done, Tom took me for a walk around a brand new neighbourhood. There was all sorts of new sights and smells for me to explore.

Very good and very funny. How big is the sign? How many did you get? Watch out for that Big Dog on the Blog!

There are three signs, one for each gate. They measure about a foot long by about 4 inches wide and are secured to each gate with zap straps.
