June 2, 2007. What a surprise I got yesterday, but I’ll tell you about it later. Tom and I went to the park early to beat the heat again. I did a 45 minute run and just as we were packing up to leave my good friend Ellie the puppy arrived. So I sucked up the last of my remaining energy and she and I romped around for
another 15 minutes. When we came back to the house, I completely flaked out in the yard.
Later in the day we went to pick up Renee as usual, but there seemed to be a little more excitement in the air. Tom and Renee loaded groceries into the truck and then we headed home. Renee started setting the picnic table in the back yard and put out all sorts of goodies. It was very tempting, but, I was very good and never touched them.
Tom started preparing food for the barbecue and wrapping up potatoes in foil. He got all sorts of other goodies ready as well. Suddenly a strange car pulled up beside the house, but it wasn’t strangers that got out. Hey, I know all these people. Yes its true, the whole flock i
s here. There was Tamara, Jess, Caitlin, Matias and Karl, and they were all carrying goodies.
It was so exciting having my whole flock together, I was just about beside myself trying to visit everyone all at the same time. Everyone was here to celebrate Tom’s birthday from yesterday. Everyone sat down to eat and there was even a treat for me a little later in the form of a small bit of steak to eat.
I really got a shock though when Renee walked out carrying an ice cream cake. I was standing and watching her bring it out the door with the candles lit and all of a sudden, the sparkler in the middle ignited.
That caught me so much by surprise that I jumped up and backwards. Holy cow, what is that thing?
All was fine though and after everyone had finished their cake, it was time for presents. Tamara and Jess gave Tom the DVD of “Epic Movie” and a card. Caitlin, Matias and Karl gave Tom the DVD of “Hannibal Rising”. Then Renee gave Tome a very nice blue T-shirt and emblazoned across the back in big, white, block letters, were the words “Sheepdog Patrol”.
After everyone left, Tom, Renee and I went for a walk around the neighbourhood and Tom wore his new T-shirt. It drew some laughs from people we came across during the walk.
This morning Tom and I went to the park for another early morning run and stayed out for a full 45 minutes. Then we went for coffee and Tom bought some new bathing suits for the lake. Afterwards we went to Burnaby Lake for another 90 minute walk. Tom wore his T-shirt
again and I got to spend the last half of the walk off-leash.
We encountered only a few people along the trail, but I was really good and stayed close to Renee and Tom the whole way. I got to swim in two streams on the way out and again on the way back which really cooled me down on such a hot day. It really feels like summer now.
