May 14, 2007. Boy is it hot today. It feels like summer and especially so in this big fur coat I’m wearing. Tom and I went to the park and for the second day in a row, I didn’t get to play on the big field. Today it was because there was someone working on the roof of the dugout and he had his 3 year old son running around on the field. I would never hurt a little guy like that, but, Tom just wants to be safe.
We went down below to the place we played yesterday. As they say, Mama didn’t raise no dummy. Every time Tom threw the ball and I went to get it, I came back and stood in the shade and made him come to me. I like this arrangement. It helped to keep me cool and still got me a good run around.
Another advantage to the low field is that it is all hills, so I burn more energy running up and down, in a shorter time. There are also a lot of things to sniff and explore. After only a half hour today, I walked up to the biggest tree I could see. It was the one that was casting the biggest shadow. I walked into the shade and lay down, and that was it dude, playtime is over man. I’m bushed (pardon the pun).
We walked back to the house to get some cool water so I could lay down in the shade. As we arrived, the big truck picking up the garbage cans arrived as well. Tom held onto me so that I could watch it. It made a lot of crashing and banging sounds that scared me a little, but with Tom watching out for me, I got through it ok.
I wonder if I will be able to do the whole walk at lunch today. Renee will be waiting, so I think I can manage it. Tom better bring lots of water though, because I think I’m going to need it.
A whole class of Kindergarten kids just walked past on the way to the park. I sat there patiently while the kids talked to me and pointed. I never once barked, because I didn’t want to scare them. They are so little and I remember when I was little, not so long ago, how things used to scare me too.
This afternoon Tom pulled out a machine called a pressure washer and hooked up the hose to it. He then started to pressure wash his boat. I loved the water spray and just lay down in it. Boy did that ever keep me cool. Tom was standing on top of the boat though, so I couldn’t reach it. When he got down though, it was a different story.
I was racing around chasing the water spray. I kept jumping up trying to grab it and unfortunately, one time I successfully got the end. Tom turned it off really quickly but not before it made me choke. I was ok again really quickly.
Tom then switched to a regular hose nozzle and let me chase the spray around for a long time. I was biting the water as it flew through the air and chasing it to where it splashed on the ground. I was spinning in circles and getting soaked. I love water, yippee, it is so much fun. Even though, I don’t much like getting my bath, getting soaked with the hose was much more fun.
It was so warm out today, that the bath with the hose cooled me down a lot and made me feel great. The best part though, is that it was so warm out, I was dry again a half hour later. Very different from the winter when I had a bath and stayed damp the entire day and into the evening.

Those photos make me laugh...what a smart dog Toby is to go into the shade. He is so photogenic. He looks so happy.
