Is There A Doctor In The House?

May 9, 2007. It has been a busy two days involving doctors. Yesterday afternoon we went to the vet for me. I have been there only two times before, but it is in my favourite building and we go there a lot. Once in the vet, they wanted to weigh me, and I am really not too sure about that scale thing. It took a lot of coaxing, but, this time I walked onto it on my own. I now weigh just a touch over 65 pounds.

I got lots of hugs and pets from Tom and the nurse. We then went into a little room that I am not all that sure about, especially when they closed the door. Tom was with me though, so I relaxed pretty quickly. The Doctor came in and he was really nice to me. He looked in my eyes with a little light, at least after he found them he did.

Then he looked in my ears and in my mouth where he checked my teeth too. Afterwards he pulled out a thing that he put in his ears and listened to my heart and lungs. After that was done, he asked whether I am showing any sign of hip dysplasia, as it is very common in my species. My back legs do get a little sore when I move them certain ways.

The doctor said that I likely have the early signs of it, but it is nothing to worry about at this point. Other than that he said I was a very healthy dog. Then while I was standing there, he gave me an injection in the back of my neck and one in my butt. I didn’t flinch or cry for either one and the doctor said he has never had a dog do that. He said that every other dog cries, or flinches when it happens, but I did neither.

Now all of my shots are completely up to date and Tom put Revolution flea treatment on me this morning and it is working quickly. I have only scratched once since he put it on. After that was done, we went to Tom’s doctor for his checkup. He has been ruled completely healthy too. His high blood pressure is gone. I’d like to take credit for that, but I think the way I keep chewing the wires on his boat trailer, contributed more to the high blood pressure.

After we got home from the doctor, Tom took me out for my run on the park. It is a very pleasant sunny day. I got a good 45 minute run in and I got to say hello to a little girl who came over to the fence. She was too nervous to pet me though, but I just sat there very patiently while she looked at me and talked to me.
