I Can See

June 3, 2007. This morning I had another new experience. The park was full of those pesky baseball players, so I didn’t get to do my usual run. Instead Renee took me for a walk on her own today. Man is it hot and it sure slowed me down while we were out there. After the walk we headed out for food and coffee.

When we pulled into the parking lot for breakfast, Tom parked right next to a big old motorcycle. There it was sitting next to me, big as life. Did I bark at it? No, not a chance, there was no audience for me, so I sat there passively looking at it through my window.

Just before Tom and Renee came back, the rider arrived. He had on his leather jacket with tassels and a big black helmet. There was still no reaction from me. Then when they got here Renee opened the door and the guy with the motorcycle helmet leaned in and petted me and I even kissed his face. But, the big question is, did it cure me of barking at motorcycles? Not a chance.

The first one that went past, I went mental as usual, jumping and running back and forth in the truck and barking in Tom’s ear. So far I have thwarted every attempt to make me stop. Tom even tried out the coins in a can rattle to try and startle me. Well it did that ok, but it just served to piss me off and I raked Tom’s hand with my teeth. One more experiment down.

We then went for a two hour walk at Burnaby Lake and I got to cool off in a couple of streams as usual. I just love wading in that water. It is so nice and cool. That wasn’t the end of the surprises though, oh, no!

When we got home and I flopped down and passed out, Renee went off for a walk on her own for another 90 minutes. The woman is a walking machine. Tom stayed with me at the house. When I woke up Renee had returned and this time she brought with her a small package. What could it be I thought?

She pulled out a small pair of scissors with a serrated blade on one side. She called them thinning shears. She got me to sit down and had Tom feed me pieces of pepperoni. They sure are good. While he was doing that, Renee started cutting some of the hair on my face and what do you know. It’s a miracle, I can see. Oh my gawd, who is that ugly guy? Just kidding, I know it’s Tom. It still hasn’t thinned out my face too much and you can only just barely see my eyes, but I can definitely see better.

I love the picture of a sheepie smile, but, I think it's more of a grin than a smile. Toby is so cute and I love reading about his adventures with you. All sheep dogs are such wonderful companions and loveable clowns. Enjoy him.

Thank you very much. Yes, it is in fact a big grin. I was mugging for Tom's camera as I ran towards him. I love being a clown and I love Tom and Renee for how well they take care of me and for everything that they do.
