Deer Heart

June 29, 2007. Last night I jumped into bed next to Tom. I am a little unsure of this forest living stuff for now and so I slept between Tom and the wall, so that he could protect me. It seems like it was a pretty good idea too. At 6:30 in the morning, I heard footsteps and then saw this big monster outside the door. I wasn’t sure what the heck it was and didn’t know whether to be afraid of it or play with it. So I started barking. Tom woke up and calmed me down and told me that the big “monster” was a deer. It just walked all the way up the path and didn’t seem concerned about me at all.

Tom and I went for a walk and just checked out the area. I love this being off-leash and I listened to all of my commands from Tom. I stayed close to him, but got plenty of chance to explore and sniff everything too.

Later in the day I went over to visit Perry and Teri. I’m still not quite sure about them so I am a little nervous and stood barking at the door of their trailer. Tom kept calling me back with the squeaker and I came right away. Later on we went over and I got re-introduced to them and I calmed down a little.

Tom fired up the chainsaw later in the day and cut up the tree that was over the path. I helped out by barking at it for a bit and then grabbed a branch on one of the logs and pulled it off to the side. Then I just had to chew the branch off, so I did.

I keep hearing motorcycles up on the road, but I don’t go up and look. I just stay close to home and explore around here. I also spend a lot of time in and out of the lake. It’s great, but, it will be so much better if the sun ever comes out and it warms up.

Tom still hasn’t launched the boat because of the weather and I am still awaiting my first boat ride. I have that nice, new life jacket for me to try out. All in all, this trip is a fantastic experience and I am sure there are more adventures to come.
