July 11, 2007. This morning when we went for our morning walk, Glenda, Tom and I took a bit different route. We walked down past kilometer 10 and then cut into the bush and walked up the mountain on an ATV trail. It is quite warm already at 9:00 AM, but nowhere near as hot as it will be later on. I’ve been wondering what is off in the bush in various directions, and now I get a chance to see for myself.
It kind of reminded me of our walks at Burnaby Lake. It is a narrow trail with bush on either side. After awhile of climbing, we came out on another logging road up the mountain and then started the long trek back. There were lots of new mud holes for me to walk in and before long I looked more black than grey or white.
Once we got home, I flopped down on the kitchen floor and zonked right out. Tom did the same, only on the bed, not the floor. When we first started out, I met up with “Buddy” and his owners and we got to romp around together for awhile before continuing on.
In the afternoon, Glenda left to go home and I am very sad to see her go. She will be back in two weeks or so, and she may even arrive at the same time that Renee does. That would be great. I tagged along beside Glenda as she walked back and forth loading her truck. I’m sure I was a nuisance, but, she didn’t seem to mind.
In the afternoon Tom took me down for some more swimming. I love getting into the water and cooling off. It feels so good. Perry and Teri have gone into town, so we are deserted here again for awhile. I am having such a good time here; I almost don’t want to go home at the end of summer. I bet there are more adventures and surprises to come.
Today I spotted a squirrel. We haven’t seen too many around here this year. Tom says there are usually lots of them, but even peanuts are not bringing them around this year. The one I spotted was climbing the birch tree in front of the cabin and right on the edge of the embankment. Well, I didn’t chase him, but I did want to say hello, so I walked down to the tree and all the way around it.
I was actually teetering over the edge of the embankment to get around. It’s not a long drop, only about 5 – 6 feet onto the rocks below, but it’s the rocks that would do the damage if I fell. No problem though, I made it all the way around, but couldn’t find the squirrel. Tom said I looked more like a mountain goat than a sheepdog.
