July 14, 2007. After a morning walk of 6K, Tom and I went into town for some supplies. We had to get gas, groceries, and newspapers, see the doctor and get a couple of little things to fix a leak under the sink. We also made phone calls to Renee. She will be here next Saturday and I can hardly wait.
As a result of that very quick windstorm yesterday, electricity was out everywhere from Kamloops to Clearwater. Barry came over and borrowed Tom’s generator to keep their food from spoiling. While we were negotiating our way into town around downed trees everywhere, we passed the Hydro guys on the way in, so power should be back on for those that have it, soon.
The Doctor gave Tom a relatively clean bill of health, ruling that his problems are caused by IBS. He just has to make sure and drink plenty of fluids so he doesn’t get dehydrated. I’m glad about that. I don’t like to see Tom sick, but even though he has been, it hasn’t slowed him down too much.
Once we got back to the cabin, we discovered that there was someone in the cabin next door. It was a man and two teenage boys. We thought that it might be the new owner, but apparently it is a friend or relative of his. I didn’t catch which.
It was so hot out. It was 37C again and the air was completely still. Tom and I went swimming and the lake was so warm, it almost didn’t cool you down. Tom threw the ball for me and then he got in the water and swam around too. He also floated on his tube. I thought that looked very relaxing, so I sat at the end of the dock with my feet dangling almost in the water and watched Tom floating nearby.
After dinner, for the second day in a row a windstorm blew up out of nowhere. This time the wind was not quite as strong, but the difference this time is that it rained a little bit and there was thunder. It didn’t bother me at all, although I did wonder what all the noise was about.
The storm was over in about 15 minutes and the deck is still dry, that’s how little it rained. The people next door immediately started moving back outside, but Tom knows this lake and it is always best to wait awhile. Storms tend to get trapped between the mountains and then circle around the lake for awhile. We’ll see what happens with this one.
The storm did circle around, but it gave only another very light sprinkle of rain. It held up long enough for Tom and I to do our evening walk. When we came back, it was time to relax, read and then watch a movie.
