The Arrival

August 3, 2007. Caitlin and Matias did not arrive last night as planned. We stayed up until 1:00 in the morning waiting for them. Tom and I were getting a little worried, but with no phone here, there was no way to contact them. In the morning when they still had not arrived, we sent a message in with Perry who was going into town.

Just after Perry left for town, Matias and Caitlin drove in, arriving at noon. They had gotten tied up at home discovering that they were moving 4 days after they get home, so they were busy making arrangements for that.

Anyway, they are here now and we are both so happy. Unfortunately, Caitlin has pulled a muscle in her back and is in real pain. So that lets out wakeboarding or tubing for this trip. I was jumping all over the place because I was so happy to see them.

We took them down to the beach and I demonstrated my swimming prowess for them and they were pretty impressed. I swam for about an hour. We couldn’t go out in the boat because there was a strong wind blowing.

In the evening, Tom and I did our walk, while Caitlin and Matias stayed behind. The walk felt like we were walking in the city though, because there was so much traffic on the road. There was a steady stream of cars, trucks, ATV’s, motorcycles and a go-kart. Unfortunately, the go-kart was being driven by a kid who looked like he was only 6 or 7 years old and was all over the place.

He swayed so much side-to-side he looked like a drunk driver coming down the highway after a New Year’s party. The increase in traffic is because of the B.C. Day long weekend and it is traditionally the biggest weekend of the summer up here.

Once we got back to the cabin, I was much more relaxed and calm. I flopped down in my usual place on the deck, but when Caitlin was lying on the couch, I showed her my concern by licking her face and then I crawled up on the couch very gently and lay down beside her. When she moved and lay down on Tom’s bed, I did the same.
