A Seaside Stroll

February 25, 2007. Today was a mixed day in almost every way. The weather ranged from cold to mild, from sunny breaks to pouring rain. After Tom came home from hockey we went out to the park and got a couple of runs in before a couple of kids showed up to play baseball. I went running around the two of them and managed to scare one. I feel bad about that. As a result, it was back on the leash and home.

We started to play in the backyard, but, that was interrupted by Frank who opened the garage door and scared heck out of me. I had never seen it opened before. So, at this point, running in the back yard went by the wayside. Instead we went for breakfast.

After that ritual was completed, we went to New Brighton Park. We tried once awhile back but that day it was too crowded. Today there was hardly anyone there. We walked around the pathways for awhile, in the rain, and saw only a couple of other dogs.

With the amount of rain we have had recently, the park was a sea of mud and puddles, which I loved. The park was also full of crows, seagulls and Canada geese. I wanted to chase them but I was on the leash and couldn’t. During the walk both Tom and I got soaked and muddy.

Finally we came upon a deserted tennis court with four courts, so it was a very large are and had gates that close. It was perfect for a big, shaggy sheepdog like me to chase a ball in. We played for a really long time and by the end, my tongue was almost dragging on the ground. Soaked, muddy, wet and tired, I ask you, what could be better?
