April 19, 2007. I feel like a spy dog. The name is Bond, James Bond. Today I was implanted with a microchip. Just like the one Mr. Bond had implanted in his arm in Casino Royale. That's pretty cool eh? With me the chip was injected under the skin on my body. What it does is it replaces the tattoo inside the ear. It’s more high tech, costs less to do, hurts a whole lot less and does not involve a general anesthetic. All my information gets encoded on the chip so that if I get lost, I can be returned.
We did a full hour run on the park today and it was really strange when we went out there. The whole park was deserted. No people, no Helicopter Man, no Chicken Wing Dancers, no Garbage Mouths, no dogs, and no birds. There was a big machine out earlier cutting the grass so maybe that scared them all away. It would have scared me.
I did really well with obedience today. Later on two dogs arrived and I went and said hello and then came back to Tom. I’m getting so much better than I was, it’s amazing. After the run we went for breakfast and coffee and then came home for awhile. Then we walked to the vet for my implant. This serves two purposes. It gets me the implant and it gets me my afternoon walk as well. That way we can watch the Canucks try and eliminate Dallas from the playoffs tonight.
Tom and I walked down to the vet and I went into a big room with the Doctor. He was really nice and the nurses were really nice too. They weighed me first and I am now still at 60 pounds. Then the two nurses held onto me and the Doctor poked me in the back with something sharp. It didn’t hurt at all and I didn’t bark or even squirm.
In less than a minute I was back with Tom. Wow, was that ever fast. Tom bought me some treats and I got a cookie from the nurse, then we headed home. As we were passing the Skytrain station, six police cars arrived with lights flashing and sirens wailing. They sure are loud and hurt my ears. All of the police people jumped out of their cars and ran into the station. Tom had me sit still until everyone was past us. Then we continued on home.
We don’t know what happened, but it must have been big. I’m proud of Tom that he used to be one of those guys. They were all very brave running into the station and not knowing what they would be facing. I could have probably helped out, if I had more training and Tom wasn’t holding me back.
After we got home, Tom unveiled the new treat for me. He bought some special sauce to put on my food. He poured it on there and I went through that bowl of food like there was no tomorrow. Usually Tom will put a bowl of food out and I let it sit there all day. Not this time though. Yum is this gravy ever good. It smells just like that steak Tom gave me a few days ago. I really like it!
