Last Day Here

June 27, 2007. It’s my last day at home. There has been a frenzy of activity around here the last couple of days as Tom gets things ready for the trip. He washed the boat inside and out the other day, in between rain storms. All during this busy time he has never once wavered from getting me out for exercise two or more times a day.

We said goodbye to Renee in person yesterday and Tom has been busy getting all our things together in the garage. We did a run in the park yesterday morning, walked over to meet Renee for lunch in the afternoon and then Tom and I went for a walk around the neighbourhood in the evening.

This morning we went to the park and after 45 minutes of running, my friend Charlie, The Doberman showed up and I got to visit and run with him for another 20 minutes. My tongue was dragging by the time we got back to the house. But, there is no rest for the wicked as they say. It was a quick drink of water and then into the truck we went.

We did a bunch of errands today as final preparations began. Tom picked up some supplies we will need, including another big bag of dog food for me. Then we went and did something completely different. Something I have never experienced before.

We went to Mr. Lube and had an oil change done on the truck, so that it would be in tip top shape for the trip. It was very interesting for me as a group of young guys swarmed all over and under the truck. I could hear sounds from underneath. There were invisible voices calling out in mysterious codes. There were bumps and thumps and the van shook several times.

Even though I usually react to things like that. Today I didn’t. I just sat there observing everything very quietly. Occasionally, one of the fellows would stop and talk to me and one even patted me on the head. I really liked that. Throughout the whole process, Tom talked to me and patted me, telling me what a good boy I was being. He was very proud of me yet again.

I’m missing Renee already. Even though we don’t leave until tomorrow morning at oh dark thirty, I can hardly wait until she joins us on July 21. Tomorrow will be such an adventure and I can hardly wait. I can feel the excitement in the air. This will be my last entry for a bit and the next one will happen after we have been at the lake and then come into town. Have a good summer everyone. I know I will!
