First Grade Road Work

July 25, 2007. It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood, yes it is. It’s quite cool this morning, but it warmed up really nicely later in the day with just a few puffy white clouds in the sky. At 7:30 AM we heard a tremendous rattling and crashing up on the road and couldn’t figure out what was happening. It turned out to be a big machine grading the road for the first time in over a year.

The morning walk was later than normal because Renee slept in, so we didn’t get going until almost 11:00 AM. It worked out well though as we didn’t have to get bothered by bicycle knob again.

The road was really smooth and soft after the grader went by and it has produced a whole new set of smells for me to explore. A man we bumped into on the walk said that there is supposed to be “dust control” applied before the end of the week. That means they will be spraying oil on the road and Tom is really unsure about me walking on it after that happens.

Renee spent more time grooming me again today. She was also reading a magazine about grooming dogs and I’m sure she learned a few tricks from it. Now it’s just a case of me cooperating with Tom after Renee leaves tomorrow, to see if we can keep me looking this good.

In the late afternoon we went for a boat ride together. As we pulled out from the dock, I managed to scare hell out of Renee by leaping off the backseat and onto the swim platform at the back of the boat. We were barely moving and the engine was in neutral, but it sure scared her until I came back in.

Once we pulled into the dock, then it was swim time. Tom went swimming, I went swimming and Renee waded up to her knees. So we did things in reverse today by getting the blow dry done before the swim.

After dinner we went for our evening walk and again I surprised everyone by bounding into the bush. When I came back a short time later I was carrying a 4 foot stick between my teeth and wandered down the road with it. I was really pleased with myself and I can’t even tell you what attracted me to that one stick in a forest full of billions of them.
