The Moose Is Loose

July 27, 2007. What an amazing start to the day. Tom got up and went over to turn on the radio to catch the 7:30 AM news and sports. He looked out the window and I could sense him get very excited and I wondered what was causing it. He suddenly hurried into the bedroom and grabbed his camera and video camera and then opened the door to the deck. I hurried out ahead of him and then I spotted it; the mysterious things in the lake that were causing him anxiety.

While he was trying to turn the cameras on and get them focused, I did what any good friend would do. I started barking very furiously at the two unknown creatures arising from the lake. What were these things? Alien invaders? Were they dangerous? I wasn’t going to wait to find out. Summoning up all of my courage I renewed my efforts at scaring them away.

The two moved off down the beach, up the neighbours stairs and disappeared into the bush by Perry’s Place. Tom told me afterwards that the two creatures were a mother and baby moose. I’ve never seen anything so big. They were bigger even than the horse we met in Burnaby. Later during our walk we were able to follow their footprints up Perry’s driveway and down the middle of the road to about 8.5K where they veered off into the bush and up the mountain.
