A Tale of Two Toby's

July 29, 2007. Morning walk time and we ended up stretching it much further than originally intended. We ended up doing a full 10K walk instead of the intended 6K. Even Glenda was tired at the end of that one. I guess because we had not planned on going quite that far today.

When we returned, we found an electrician waiting at Glenda’s place. He was there to do an estimate for wiring Glenda’s cabin and at the same time he did one for ours as well. No word on if it will happen for us or not.

The neatest part of the visit though, is that sitting in the passenger seat of his truck was a dog. His dog is a 7 year old Dalmatian and would you believe the coincidence? The Dalmatian’s name is, wait for it…Toby…just like me. Well we became instant friends and were running all over the place together.

I took him to see Glenda’s property, our property, Perry’s place, Clive’s place and down on the beach too. We got to romp around the whole time all this estimating was going on. It was awesome!

Afterwards, Tom flopped on the couch and continued to read Harry Potter 7 for the rest of the day, and me being completely beat lay beside him for the whole day too. It was cooler than yesterday, but still very warm. The way Tom is going, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him finish the book today. Boy, can he read fast.

Sure enough, just after dinner and just in time for our evening walk, Tom finished the last page in the book. So we all headed out for our evening walk. There was lots of traffic on the road this evening. Being a Sunday night it would be all the weekenders heading home, although the lake was again not very busy this weekend.

As we got to the 10K mark, the turnaround point in our walk, Tom spotted a deer standing in the middle of the road. Unfortunately, she spotted us first and started moving into the bush and got clean away before Tom or Glenda could get their cameras operational. They can’t even blame me this time, because I stood still and silent. OK, I admit it; I didn’t really see the deer.

I did catch her scent as we got close to where she was though, and I went straight up the side of the embankment to see if I could see her. That bank was steep, but I made it all the way to the top, but she was gone. She leaped up it in about two bounds.

One of these days, Tom says he will get a picture. I guess he will have to carry the Nikon with the telephoto from now on as it is instant on, where the little HP takes about 40 seconds to boot up and be ready to shoot. I’d cross my fingers if I had any, but I don’t, so I’ll just hope for the best.
